KLANG: To evade being chastised by his parents, a nine-year-old boy who skipped school cooked up a story by telling his mother that two men had attempted to kidnap him during his journey to school on Tuesday.
This prompted his mother to lodge a police report but investigators uncovered the truth on interviewing the boy.
According to the woman's report, the student claimed that he was cycling to his religious school in Kampung Jawa here and pulled over at a sundry shop to buy food at about 2pm.
The boy had claimed when he continued his journey, a white van that appeared to be Thai-registered blocked his path before a man wearing a face mask stepped out.
On seeing this, the boy said he sped off on his bicycle and was chased on foot by the masked man while his accomplice chased him in the white van.
When they arrived at a barricade, the van was impassable and the men no longer pursued him.
The boy told his mother that he returned home following the "incident".
Klang Selatan police chief ACP Alzafny Ahmad said on learning the boy had made up the story, investigators gave him a stern warning and advised him not to resort to such a ruse again before letting him off the hook.
News of the boy's case went viral on social media, claiming there was a kidnap attempt on the truant student.
