GEORGE TOWN: Police have served 14 arrest warrants on an 18-year-old motorcyclist during a traffic operation today.

The youth was wanted for various traffic offences and he was served after being stopped at a road block during the three-hour operation beginning at 10am.

Policemen who served the warrants told him to be present in court on those dates or face being issued with additional arrest warrants.

Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said police issued a total of 220 summonses during the operation at Jalan Patani and in Jelutong here.

He said the summonses were for various offences including not wearing motorcycle helmets, not putting on seatbelts, not obeying traffic lights and using handphones while driving.

He said these offences contributed to road accidents and urged drivers to obey traffic laws.

"Road users are advised to stop when the lights are red and not to use handphones while driving.

"Also, many who received fines fail to pay up, my advise is to check and pay the fine or else police will 'convert' the notice to a court date," he said in a statement.
