KOTA BARU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) plans to have 3,000 Friends of KPDNKK (FOK) members for each of the 14 parliamentary constituencies in Kelantan.
Kelantan KPDNKK director Datuk Ab Ghani Harun said currently, there are only 6,443 FOK members to protect the rights of consumers throughout the state.
"We will plan programmes and activities to encourage more people to become FOK members and will get parliamentary coordinating officers to recruit members in their constituencies," he told reporters at the Aidilfitri celebration of Kelantan KPDNKK, here today.
At the event, he gave "duit raya" to 64 students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanjung Bunga and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tanjung Bunga.
Ab Ghani also said Kelantan KPDNKK had suspended the operating licence of 21 cooking oil wholesalers for colluding with the smugglers.
"The suspension of the licence is enforced until a final decision is reached. This is to address the smuggling of cooking oil across the border," he added.
KPDNKK also implemented the Price Distribution and Standardisation programme to address the cost of living in remote areas of Dabong, Kuala Krai, Machang and Gua Musang.
It had appointed eight transport companies to distribute the goods in an effort to stabilise the price of subsidised goods meant for the rural population. — Bernama
