Magistrate's Court sets Aug 17 for mention of fatal hit and run case

GEORGE TOWN: The Magistrate's Court here today fixed Aug 17 for mention in a case where a crew member of a ship was charged with reckless driving which resulted in the death of an elderly woman.

Magistrate Mohamed Amin Shahul Hamid set the date when the case was brought up for mention.

The new date was set pending the appointment of a lawyer for the accused and submission of documents to the court.

The accused had told the court he had yet to appoint a lawyer to represent him in the trial.

Nazri Che Lah, 44, was charged with recklessly riding his motorcycle and causing the death of one Foo Swee Wah, 58, at Jalan Burma about 10.30am on April 6 this year.

The offence under the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a maximum 10 year prison sentence and a maximum RM20,000 fine upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Fatin Hussain prosecuted the case.
