GEORGE TOWN: Police today had a shock after finding a man having 102 outstanding summonses dating back to 10 years ago totalling RM5,020.
Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said the man, in his 30s, was found to have violated various traffic offences after being stopped at a road block during a three-hour operation beginning 10am.
He said traffic policemen came across the summonses after using a gadget to check the man's record.
He said police have since printed out the summonses and given him a week to settle them or else the man has to be present in court.
"Out of 102 summonses, 97 are from the Northeast district while the rest are from other districts," he added in a statement today.
Anuar said police issued a total of 220 summonses during the operation at Jalan Patani and in Jelutong here.
He said the summonses were for various offences including not wearing motorcycle helmets, not putting on seat belts, not adhering to traffic lights and using handphones while driving.
He said these offences contributed to road accidents and urged drivers to obey traffic laws.
