KUALA LUMPUR: The opening of Phase Two of the Mass Rapid Transit Sungai Buloh - Kajang line next Monday is set to further boost the urban rail network coverage according to Marcus Karakashian.

The MRT line project director said the opening of phase two next Monday would enable all its seven interchange stations of the line to become operational and provide commuters easier access to other rail services to the city centre.

"This interchange stations will allow commuters to easily transfer from the MRT services to other rail services such as the Kelana Jaya line, Ampang and Sri Petaling line as well as the KTM services," he told reporters during a pre-launch media briefing today.

Among the interchange stations that allows commuters to change to other rail services includes Pasar Seni (interchange with Kelana Jaya line), Merdeka (interchange with Ampang line), Muzium Negara (a linked pedestrian walkway for commuters to KL Sentral station where most rail network is located), and Kajang (sharing a common concourse with Kajang KTM station).

Karakashian pointed out that with the integration and new areas of coverage, its ridership would increase tremendously as there will be more people using the rail service.
Also present at the briefing was MRT Corp Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Relations director Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah who then revealed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is scheduled to launch the second phase of the SBK line on Monday at the Tun Razak Exchange station prior to taking a MRT train to Stadium Kajang station where he will proceed to Kajang stadium to celebrate with the people.
Work is under way on MRT's second line, the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line, which is targeted for completion in 2022, while the third line is still on the drawing board.
