LABUAN: Dengue cases are on the rise in the duty-free-island here, with 29 cases (Jan-mid July), an increase of 625% compared to only four cases in the same period last year.
Although no death has been reported thus far, at least four cases had been recorded in less than a month (July), in the Kiansam resettlement area and Taman Mutiara.
Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismuni Bohari said other localities included Kg Sg Bedaun (15 cases), Kg Batu Arang (eight), Kg Pantai (five) and Kg Layangan (one).
"Despite educational and awareness campaigns and 'gotong royong', there are still areas with aedes' breeding grounds.
"Therefore, we have no choice but to fully enforce the law under the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975 (Act 154) and strictly conduct operations soon," he told Bernama here today. – Bernama
