KUALA LUMPUR: The full opening of the Mass Rapid Transit Service (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang Route (SBK) on Monday creates a level of connectivity that has never been enjoyed by the country, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
She said with the opening of the second phase of the MRT, students and staff of 40 schools and educational institutions will be able to use the public transport service.
"The opening of Phase Two of the MRT is proof of the government's commitment in fulfilling the promises to the people under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak," she said in a statement issued by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).
The second phase of the SBK route, between Kajang and the National Museum involving 19 stations, is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister on Monday.
The first phase of the route between Sungai Buloh and Semantan, which has 12 stations, started operating on Dec 16 last year.
It ferries an average of 15,000 passengers per day.

Nancy noted that the implementation of the MRT project as a whole is proof of the government's commitment to the aspiration of making the land public transport system more inclusive.
"We want to see the public transport system in the future become more inclusive and tailor-made to meet the needs of certain groups such as people with disabilities, families with young children and senior citizens," she said. — Bernama
