13th edition of the Roasters Chicken Run draws 2,000 participants

KUALA LUMPUR: The 13th edition of the Roasters Chicken Run (RCR) at Berjaya Times Square saw some 2,000 participants today.
What sets it apart from other runs is that participants are required to balance an egg on a cone, and make it to the finishing line without breaking the egg.
Berjaya Food Berhad Chief Executive Officer Sydney Quay said proceeds from the RCR's signups will be contributed to Food Aid Foundation, a non-profit organisation which acts as a food bank to provide basic food to charitable homes nationwide, including rehabilitation and feeding centres, as well as to poor families.
"The RCR is one of the significant events in our calendar because it fits our objective to promote healthy living and also allows us to give back to the community.
"A huge part of the funds raised from this event will be translated to nutritious wholesome meals contributed to the needy while the remaining will be donated to various organisations through Food Aid Foundation," Sydney said when launching the run.
He added KRR's collaboration with the Food Aid Foundation in the last two years has managed to produce a total of 3,340 wholesome KRR meals for 35 homes and organisations between July 2015 and March 2017.
The Roasters Chicken Run 2017 is co-organised by Berjaya Times Square and Berjaya Time Square Theme Park, together with supporting partner Ultron.
Registered participants received freebies worth more than RM100, including an exclusive RCR T-shirt, Berjaya Times Square Theme Park entrance wristband, a goodie bag, finisher's medal, and an e-cert.
The runners had to run through a pre-designated route of 5km (for runners aged 13 and above), or 2km (for runners aged seven to 12 years).
Syed Danial Syed Rosli, 20, who as an avid runner, said he is happy to be able to contribute to a noble cause.
"I always run on the weekend, but what makes today's run so significant is that I can contribute to the less fortunate while I do what I love the most.
"People should support events as good as this because everyone plays a role in society," he said.
