A BEAUTY pageant winner from Singapore has posted a bare-faced photo of herself on Facebook in defence of this year's Miss Singapore finalists who have been described as "pathetic" by commenters online.
Melissa Wix, who was crowned Miss Bikinis Asia 2016 and Miss Cosmopolitan World Singapore 2016, wanted to show how plain she could look without makeup. She said the Miss Singapore finalists are not "ugly" but merely need proper grooming and makeup.
"Quit criticising them and look at yourself in the mirror bare-faced first," she said.
She blamed the organiser of the pageant for not making the effort to groom the contestants before the photo shoot.
The 19 finalists for the Miss Singapore Beauty Pageant 2017 were said to be "ugly" and "not pretty enough". Some even said that the contestants didn't look "Singaporean".
The organiser of the pageant, ERM Singapore Marketing, said six of the finalists are permanent residents, with three originating from China and three from Malaysia. The pageant is open to both Singaporeans and Singapore PRs from 17 years old.
