KUALA LUMPUR: The cluster hospital concept implemented at the Setiu Hospital, a district hospital in Terengganu since last year, has been successful in the government's efforts to optimise health services to the people.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said he visited the hospital today and that that the hospital's operating theatre could be upgraded.
"After the repair works on the roof were completed in 2013, the operating theatre started to perform more surgeries. However, the usage can be optimised as the hospital is located near the East Coast Highway 2 and attends to a large number of road accidents," he said in a statement today.
The 76-bed non-specialist district hospital had been upgraded into a cluster hospital together with the Besut Hospital and the Hulu Terengganu Hospital, and the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) as the leading hospital, he said.
Costing RM65 million and starting operations in 2003, the hospital has multi-disciplinary wards for both men and women, as well as wards for children, maternity, an operating theatre, emergency unit and outpatient clinic, as well as a unit each for dialysis and rehabilitation.
Apart from 24 medical officers, there are seven pharmacists and various other healthcare personnel serving at the Setiu Hospital. — Bernama
