Penang govt will not sign MACC Corruption-Free Pledge: Ramasamy

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government will not be signing the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) Corruption-Free Pledge as it has no faith in the agency according to Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy (pix).
He said the state administration strongly believes it's clean, accountable and transparent (CAT) philosophy was more effective in fighting corruption.
Ramasamy questioned why the MACC was concerned with Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, which have not signed the pledge.
He said the agency should rather convince these states that it can act against those involved in corruption without fear or favour.
"Signing the pledge is not as important as fighting the scourge of corruption and abuse of power," he said in a post on Facebook today.
Ramasamy was referring to MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad who reportedly expressed regret on the Penang state government's refusal to sign the pledge.
