KUALA LUMPUR: Penang Wanita Umno vice-chief, Sopiah Sharif, today took her oath as a new Senator for a three-year term.
She was sworn in before Dewan Negara president, Datuk Seri S. A. Vigneswaran, in Parliament building, here.
Sopiah, 60, from Sungai Bakau, Penang, is a member of the State Umno Liaison Committee.
Met by reporters after the swearing-in, Sopiah said she would shoulder her responsibilities as a member of the Senate to the best of her ability by raising issues of public concern, such as house ownership for young people. — Bernama
