People should trust the party with clear leadership structure: Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: The people should place their trust on the party that has the clearest leadership structure when the 14th General election comes around, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
"A clear leadership, a clear hierarchy, a clear authority, a clear direction and a clear capability. In times of uncertainty these are the factors that need to be taken into account in determining who comes into power and is able to steer the country forward," he told reporters during the Umno Hari Raya open house held at Dewan Tun Razak 1, PWTC, here today.
With the proven record of Umno and Barisan Nasional, Najib questioned the need for the people to put their future at a higher risk.
"Umno and Barisan Nasional are strong and have a good track record despite instances where weaknesses have been pointed out. But in general, the world has recognised us in lifting the country to levels its citizens can be proud of," he said.
With Umno's track record for the past 60 years, Najib added that in the end the people can and will tell between "a glass and a diamond".
His response comes after Pakatan Harapan, which comprises Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), DAP, Parti Amanah Negara and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), announced its new leadership structure with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as its de facto leader, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the chairman and Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the president on Friday.
Earlier, Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor arrived at the venue around 11.45am and visited the various stalls organised by each Umno state division along with their party's Youth, Wanita and Putera wings.
During the event, Najib also launched the book "Asal Usul Melayu Induknya di Benua Melayu Sunda" (The Origin of the Malays at the Sunda-Malay Continent) written by Zaharah Sulaiman, Wan Hashim Wan Teh and Nik Hassan Shuhaimi Nik Abdul Rahman.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak as well as other Umno ministers.
