KLANG: Police today detained a man with 12 previous records who rammed a car into an unmarked police vehicle in a bid to escape at Taman Selat Selatan, Pandamaran here.
South Klang district police chief ACP Alzafny Ahmad said police were alerted to the incident at about 12.05am today.
"The drama unfolded when police followed a luxury car heading to Pandamaran from Jalan Banting at about 9.50pm on Saturday.
"At one point, police stopped the suspect and identified themselves," he said in a statement today.
Alzafny said the suspect reacted violently and rammed into the unmarked car.
"Left with no choice, police had to fire a shot at the suspect's car tyre in self-defence," he said.
He said the suspect also hit the gate of a house in his bid to escape.
Police detained the 29-year-old local immediately after he hit the gate.
Alzafny said the car the suspect was driving was reported stolen in Klang.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
