KUALA LUMPUR: The Council of Federal Datuks Malaysia (MDPM) has urged the relevant authorities to set up a hotline for the public to inform about those carrying fake "Datuk" titles.
Its president Tan Sri Danny Ooi said that he is happy with the government's actions in curbing fake "Datuk" titles with the passing of the Awards Act in Parliament.
"The act is going to be gazetted but there is fine tuning to be done. Implementation of the act is also important," he said.
"That's why we are suggesting that a hotline for people to report these cases of false titles be implemented maybe by the police and the government," he said.
Ooi was speaking to the media at the MDPM Aidilfitri dinner at the Royale Chulan hotel here on Friday night.
"This event is a precursor to other events that MDPM is hosting this year," said Ooi.
He said that among the events planned this year are a charity golf tournament, and MDPM's 15-year anniversary gala.
"We intend to raise some RM300,000 for charity at our golf tournament this year," he said.
Also present at the dinner was MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas and MCA Public Services and Complaints Department chief Datuk Seri Michael Chong.
