Secondary school student beaten up for refusing to join 'gang'

JOHOR BARU: A secondary school student was beaten up by a mob of teenagers after he refused to join their 'gang'.
In the incident that took place in front of a school in Taman Impian Emas, the victim escaped with minor injuries and received treatment at the Sultanah Aminah hospital here.
Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Azman Ayob confirmed that a report was lodged by the victim, and said police were investigating.
He said this after attending the handing over of duty ceremony between out-going deputy Johor police chief DCP Datuk Mohd Zakaria and new state police deputy chief DCP Datuk Mohd Kamaruddin Md Din at the state police headquarters here today.
Zakaria, 57, who has held the post since May 3, last year, has been promoted to deputy director of Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (legal).
Meanwhile, Kamarudin, 53, joined the force in 1988 and held several important posts in the crime and commercial crime investigating departments.
The ceremony was witnessed by Johor police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd.
