PUTRAJAYA: Parti Amanah Negara's Youth vice-chief was charged at the Magistrate Court today with causing public nuisance at the Election Commission's (EC) building in May.
Mohd Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin, 30, claimed trial to chaining and locking the gate in front of the main door of the building, which prevented the occupants of the building from using the gate.
The offence was allegedly committed at the EC's building at Presinct 2, Putrajaya at 11am on May 23, 2017.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzat Fauzan suggested bail of RM5,000, however defence counsel Syahredzan Johan urged the court to impose a lower quantum.
He said the accused is married with two young children and is a religious teacher.
"The accused is a political activist," said Syahredzan, adding that Mohd Shazni should be released on a personal bond.
He said the maximum fine for the offence is RM400 and asked for a bail amount of between RM500 and RM800.
Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Ab Rahman granted bail of RM800 and fixed July 31 for mention.
