Opposition will not apologise for 'Kajang move': Wan Azizah

KAJANG: The opposition will not apologise for engineering the infamous 'Kajang move' three years ago, which had caused the removal of former Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pix) said the move was a thing of the past and thus people must move on from it.
Wan Azizah, who is PKR president, insisted that the opposition had not taken the wrong step by initiating the political manoeuvre.
"Whatever is done is done, and then we move on," she said, adding that Selangor had seen improvement after the change in leadership.
"Why should I (apologise for the Kajang Move)," she told reporters at the Kajang Municipal Council's Hari Raya open house at Dewan Seri Cempaka here.
The Kajang move was a political manoeuvre by the opposition in 2014 to topple Abdul Khalid and replace him with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The plan was a huge flop as Anwar was unable to contest in the Kajang state constituency following his conviction for sodomy. Wan Azizah, who is also Anwar's wife, took over his place and won.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak had recently poked fun at the opposition by describing the newly launched Mass Rapid Transit Sungai Buloh – Kajang (MRT SBK) line as "the real Kajang Move".
A day before the launch of the MRT SBK line, Najib tweeted that the the journey to visit acquaintances in Sungai Buloh from Kajang would be much easier and comfortable via the new public transportation.
Netizens were amused by the tweet as it had made a reference to both Wan Azizah, the current Kajang assemblyman, and Anwar, who is serving his sentence at the Sungai Buloh prison.
Commenting on this, Wan Azizah said it was unkind for people to make a joke out of "injustice" against Anwar.
"I don't think that was right, but you want to make it (as a joke) ... It doesn't come out well," she added.
