KAJANG: The Selangor government has dismissed talks that it had disallowed state civil servants from attending the launch of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh - Kajang (SBK) line on Monday.
In refuting the allegations, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the launching event was instead being “hijacked” by Umno and turned into the party's programme.
He added that the Selangor government would never took the advantage by inserting party elements into any event organised under the state.
"It is untrue (banning state civil servants) as it is a (federal) government event. From the information that I received, Umno had tried to hijack the MRT programme to become its own.
"We have never allowed projects and programmes under the (state) government to be turned into a party's programme," he told reporters after attending the Kajang Municipal Council's Hari Raya open house at Dewan Seri Cempaka here.
Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar had claimed that the Selangor government had forbidden its public servants from attending the launching of the multi-billion public transportation system.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Monday launched the second phase of MRT SBK line, while poking fun at the opposition by describing the line as the real “Kajang move”.
The Kajang move was a botched political manoeuvre by the opposition in 2014 to topple the then Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and replace in with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Commenting on the opening of Kajang 2 multilevel intersection, Mohamed Azmin said the new road would benefit more than 50,000 users around Bangi and Kajang and would reduce traffic in the area.
"It will also provide an alternative route to the nearby residents to get an access to Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur International Airport," he said.
He added that the cost to build the road was fully contributed by seven private developers under a smart partnership initiative.
The new intersection, which costed RM62 million, was opened by Mohamed Azmin earlier on Tuesday morning.
