IN the field of education, choices are many and students usually find the right course based on their interests.
"The fact that Heriot-Watt University has a solid establishment of 196 years as well as its well-positioned status among the top UK universities amazed me.As the campus is located in Putrajaya, it is a great escape from the busy city, where one is able to enjoy life as a university student without much distraction," said Melvin Hong Mao Bin, an undergraduate student in Accounting and Business Finance at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia.
Recently, Heriot-Watt has been ranked in the top 30 among UK universities and listed as a "Notable Climber" in The Complete University Guide 2018 (CUG). The CUG also revealed that the university placed third in Scotland, while several of its subjects were ranked in the UK top quartile, including Accounting and Finance, Business and Management Studies, Economics and Mathematics.
The university's Accounting and Business Finance programme is universally recognised by professional accountancy bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Association of Chartered Certified Accounts (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and, most recently, CPA Australia. The programme offers paper exemptions from each of these professional bodies.
"The opportunity to study in Heriot-Watt, one of the top universities in the UK, is already a plus point added to my career prospects," quipped Melvin. He further added, "The helpful and knowledgeable lecturers will, without doubt, prepare us well for a successful career."
Besides that, Melvin mostly enjoy his studies there with college mates burning the midnight oil together for tests and finals, and completing assignments. "It is this companionship that is important as it has taught me the significance of teamwork and teammates throughout my years in the university," he explained.
"This degree has definitely helped me to have a clear understanding of my profession while being able to relate to the real world," Melvin added.
The university actively conducts career fairs to allow students to develop links with industries and professional employers.
"We always have people from professional bodies coming over to share their experiences and thoughts on accounting, providing tips for a successful career," he said.
