Johor police cripple armed robbery gang

JOHOR BARU: Police have crippled an armed robbery gang known as "Gang Budin" with the arrest of four members in a series of raids on Tuesday night.
Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said the raids by the Serious Crime division (D9) was conducted between 2pm to 8pm.
He said that the suspects, including one from Sabah, were aged between 21 to 32.
Acting on information gathered from interrogating the gang members, police officers found a CZ semi-automatic gun and a casing with three 9mm live bullets in the Pasir Gudang area.
"The modus operandi of the group, who have been active for three months around the Seri Alam area, was to carry out their robberies by allegedly threatening people with a gun.
Wan Ahmad said that early investigations found that the gang had admitted to carrying out six robberies in business premises, four in Seri Alam and two in Johor Baru Selatan.
The suspects were taken to court to seek a remand to facilitate investigations into their involvement in robbery cases in other districts in the state.
All the suspects tested positive for syabu after urine tests and they possessed a total of 25 criminal records.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 8 (a) of the Firearms (Increased penalties) Act 1971 for unlawful possession of firearms, the Firearms Act 1960 for possessing live bullets and Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal code for gang robbery.
