Making an impact

JAMIZAL Zainol is a senior legal counsel at a Japanese multinational oil and gas company. He enrolled for Edinburgh Business School’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme at Heriot-Watt University’s Putrajaya campus in September last year, and is already seeing the impact of his studies at work.
“As a member of the management team I can now effectively give my opinion on issues outside of those requiring legal input. The management team appreciate my views as I adopt the ‘big picture’ approach, taking into account all operational and business angles,” he says.
“I benefited a great deal from the Organisational Behaviour module, and have been able to provide effective solutions on human resource issues, especially when motivating employees and deploying leadership skills. I’m also able to understand all the financial jargon presented during management meetings and able to challenge finance managers to help the team reach cogent decisions. My MBA knowledge has opened up many opportunities as I’ve been approached to fill in management positions in other business units.”
Jamizal chose the Edinburgh Business School MBA because of its flexibility, and the fact that many of the lecturers fly in from the UK, claiming, “I value the knowledge acquired and the social interaction with lecturers and course mates who are all professionals in their fields. Networking is paramount in this current world where ‘who you know’ and ‘what you know’ are equally important to advance in the business world. The professional lecturers mainly come from Edinburgh, which makes the lectures more exciting.
“The text book prepared by the school for each subject is comprehensive and its contents are updated regularly to keep abreast of new developments and the latest events in the world. In addition, the course website is professionally designed and very helpful for a part-time student like me to follow. It covers the subject in depth featuring an abundance of information and past papers,” he says.
The Edinburgh Business School MBA has been available in Malaysia since 1992. This world-renowned MBA has also been delivered by top UK and Asian staff at the Heriot-Watt University Malaysia campus since January 2013. To date, 47 students have completed the programme with a further 98 currently studying the part-time programme, which is delivered via weekend seminars so students can continue to earn while they learn.
The Edinburgh Business School’s MBA programme is approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency, and delivered by Heriot-Watt University, accredited by Royal Charter in the UK.
The students – all busy, working professionals – have chosen one of the most popular and flexible MBA programmes in the world which boasts more than 11,200 active students and 20,500 graduates.
Registration is open for the September 2017 intake and preview events will be held at 6.30pm on July 20 at the Hilton Sentral KL, and at 10.30am on Aug 5 at the Putrajaya Campus.
