Seven teenagers detained for assaulting schoolmate

JOHOR BARU: Seven teenage boys have been detained for allegedly beating up a schoolmate in front of a secondary school in Skudai here on Monday.
Police arrested the suspects, aged between 14 and 16, at several locations after the incident was reported to the school and the victim's family.
Johor police chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the incident occurred after the victim reported to a teacher that the suspects had climbed over the school fence to skip classes.
Annoyed by the victim’s action, the suspects punched, stomped and kicked the victim causing him to suffer bruises and injuries on the head, face, back and hands.
A member of the public who witnessed the incident rescued the 13-year-old victim and later informed the school and victim's family.
“All the suspects are being remanded until July 20 and we will conduct a detailed investigation to curb gangsterism among schoolchildren,” Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, he confirmed that five individuals including a woman had been detained for brutally beating a Form Five male student after he refused to join a secret society n July 16.
He said four of the suspects were detained by Johor police early yesterday morning while another was detained by Melaka police on the same day.
"The suspects aged between 15 and 19 years old are being remanded to facilitate investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code," he added. — Bernama
