KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium in Jalan Cheras will be redeveloped near its original location and be upgraded into a community stadium with a new look.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the new stadium project, to be undertaken by well-known property developer M Vertica, was also to make way for its development project, also in Jalan Cheras.
"We want a more comfortable stadium," he said, adding that the new stadium would be built on a 0.8ha site and the construction expected to start in the fourth quarter of this year.
Tengku Adnan said the property developer also agreed to provide 100 units of council homes for Kuala Lumpur City Hall to rent out to about 500 single individuals in the federal capital at the rate of RM50 per month.
He said the council homes were aimed at helping low-income singles with acquiring affordable accommodation, while their strategic location of being near the city centre and public transportation like the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) would make them more mobile.
The M Vertica development project in Jalan Cheras involves the construction of five blocks of buildings at the 4.55ha site and the targeted groups are first-time house buyers, professionals and newly married couples. — Bernama
