Lineisy Montero vs Greta Varlese: Which of the runway rivals rules social media?

20 Jul 2017 / 03:05 H.

YOUNG models Lineisy Montero and Greta Varlese have enjoyed a strong catwalk presence during fashion weeks over the last two years. In fact, the pair already count more than 200 fashion shows each on their modeling CVs – a record! This presence is echoed on Instagram, the social network of choice in the world of fashion and beauty. But which social media-savvy model has the most success online? Our exclusive analysis program SocialTools* offers some insight.
Prada, Loewe, Balenciaga, Céline, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu have all been seduced by the feline eyes and afro locks of Lineisy Montero, who notched up no fewer than 254 catwalk shows between June 2015 and May 2017. Greta Varlese, the sublime green-eyed brunette – seen at Givenchy, Alberta Ferretti, Fendi, Valentino, Elie Saab, Giambattista Valli, Alexandre Vauthier, Atelier Versace and Chanel – also walked plenty of runway miles during the same period, with 233 shows to her name. As well as being big names on the catwalk, the two models are also popular on Instagram, where both are very active.
While the models' accounts have a more or less equivalent number of posts, their Instagram strategies are quite different. Greta gives more attention and feedback to her followers, with 5,000 interactions, whereas Lineisy only has 3,000. Greta also has the greatest number of comments and likes, with more than double that of her rival. It's a great performance, but it may not pay off that much when it comes to counting followers. Dominican model Lineisy has 78,000 followers, beating Swiss model Greta's 51,000 followers.
This paradox could in part be explained by the kind of content the two top models post. Greta may reply to her followers' comments, but she only posts photoshoots and magazine covers – essentially sharing her professional portfolio and nothing that followers couldn't see in media publications. Lineisy, on the other hand, shares moments with friends, makeup-free selfies and love for her family. By giving followers a behind-the-scenes look into her life and her work, she proves that it's possible to stay down to earth while also enjoying a successful international career. — AFP Relaxnews
