PUTRAJAYA: The 60th National Day celebrations will be unique this year as the government plans to re-enact scenes of the first Merdeka in 1957, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said today.
Themed "Negaraku Sehati Sejiwa" (My Country, One Heart, One Soul), Salleh said the celebrations would take place at Dataran Merdeka. It would be set up to look like Stadium Merdeka 60 years ago.
"As such, in an effort to ensure that the celebrations were as similar on that historic day, we will be ensuring multiracial participation.
"Hopefully the current generation will be able to appreciate the unique and almost similar atmosphere our forefathers had celebrated on that day," he told reporters after chairing the National organising committee meeting at the ministry, here, today.
Salleh also announced that the Prime Minister's National Day address will be delivered on Aug 30 at 4pm in Angkasapuri, Kuala Lumpur.
The early address, he said, is to accommodate the National Day Eve celebrations which would coincide with the closing ceremony of the 2017 SEA Games at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil from 8pm onwards.
"We will be working closely with the Youth and Sports Ministry on the ceremony. The Malaysia Day celebrations this year will be held at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on Sept 16," he added.
