KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition should not be envious of the distinctive achievements of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in fighting graft but instead extend its support to further enhance the commission's efforts.
Kuala Selangor MP and Parliamentary Select Committee member Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim said today that he was riled by the disparaging comments made against the MACC by PKR's secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution.
He said that as a strategic advisor to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Saifuddin should be aware of the role and responsibilities of the MACC in countering corruption.
Irmohizam advised leaders of opposition parties to accept with an open mind the views of the MACC on Penang's refusal to accept the Corruption-Free Pledge (IBR) proposal.
"As politicians we have to support the MACC's efforts for it to be effective. If we disrespect the commission, the public will not respect it too. I hope the opposition will repent, look at itself in the mirror and put its own party in order before criticising others. The leadership of MACC's chief commissioner Datuk Zulkifli Ahmad is proven with the number of high-profile cases uncovered since Sept last year.
