TANJUNG MALIM: A postman's job is mainly to deliver letters and parcels, but now, they have also become the "eyes and ears" of the authorities to help the local community through the "Smart Postman" application.
Perak was chosen as the first state in Peninsular Malaysia for postmen to use the application.
State Tourism, Culture, Arts and Cultural Committee member Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi said the service started this month, with the Tanjung Malim Post Office selected as the first location.
"The application which is provided to postmen has various functions, including submitting reports on road damage, floods, illegal waste disposal as well as presence of disabled persons in their areas of assignment for the authorities to conduct follow-up action," he told reporters after the launch of the Integrated Telecommunication Tower structure and Smart Postman application here today.
He said if the mobile application developed by Pos Malaysia achieved its objective, it could be expanded and adopted by all agencies in Perak in the future.
Nolee Ashilin added the initiative was part of a National Blue Ocean Strategy collaboration between KPerak, a telecommunications infrastructure coordinator, and Pos Malaysia. — Bernama
