Taiping Municipal Council checks age of trees in lake gardens

PETALING JAYA: Its a majestic, ancient rain tree estimated to be 130-years-old and stands proudly among similar trees in the Taiping Lake gardens.
The commissioner of the Malaysian Forest Research Centre, who was engaged by the Taiping Municipal Council to determine its vintage, calculated the age of the tree with the use of acoustic tomography equipment for the park.
The centre also carried out similar checks on 97 rain trees in the gardens, and the task took eight days to be completed.
To detect the health of the rain tree, the test belt is used to circle the width of the rain tree which is connected to a laptop.
