Another secret society member detained: Kedah CID chief

ALOR STAR: The Kedah police today confirmed the arrest of another member of a secret society, bringing to 17 the number of people suspected of being triad members in the state.
State Criminal Investigation Department head SAC Mior Farid Al-Athrash Wahid said the latest suspect, who is from Kedah and in his 30s, was arrested in Kuala Lumpur.
The suspect was arrested for alleged involvement in organsied crime and drug-related offences, he told reporters at a Hari Raya event organised by Kedah CID here last night.
On the 16 suspects detained, he said the suspects, aged between 20 and 50, were arrested in several locations in Sungai Petani under "Ops Cantas Khas" which was carried out in the state, Penang and Selangor during which 62 people were arrested.
In another development, Mior Farid said the police had identified several suspects in connection with the murder-cum-robbery of a Myanmar national, identified as Min Tun Um, 54, on a hill near a housing project in Bukit Bintang Maya, Sungai Petani, last July 18.
The suspects are believed to be in the state still and police are expected to arrest them soon, he said. — Bernama
