House fire kills two senior citizens

PETALING JAYA: Two senior citizens perished in a fire at a double-storey house at Jalan SS2/4 here.
In the incident that took place early this morning, a 73-year-old man and his 89-year-old sister were found dead in the house while their grandson managed to escape unharmed.
"The man's body was found in the kitchen at 4.15am, while his sister was found in the first floor bathroom at 4.35am," said Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din.
Mohd Zani added that police had ruled out foul play and the bodies have been sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre.
"The Fire and Rescue Department's forensic team said the fire may have been caused by a (short circuit or power surge), but the investigation is still on-going," he added.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said a distress call was received at 3.38am, and when his 12-man team arrived ten minutes later, the house was 70% engulfed in flames.
"The fire was brought under control in five minutes, but only fully doused at 5am," he said.
