PORT DICKSON: The Pasir Panjang UMNO Division hopes the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership will field a candidate who is close to the hearts of the people in the Teluk Kemang Parliamentary constituency in the coming general elections (GE).
Its division chief Ramli Aziz said selecting the right candidate was crucial to ensure the seat could be won by BN.
"When we do a study, go to the ground to meet the local community, we see that the issue of candidate is one of the causes for BN to lose in the last GE.
"When an outsider is fielded, the voters don't know the candidate, that's why a local candidate who is well liked by the people and has served the Teluk Kemang constituency should be fielded," he said.
He was speaking to reporters at the Pasir Panjang District Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House near here last night, which was also attended by Teluk Kemang UMNO Division chief Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abd Samad (pix). — Bernama
