Police detain 10 alleged GROs hiding behind secret door in KTV room

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have detained 10 foreign women hiding behind a secret door who are believed to be working as guest relations officers (GROs) in a raid at a bistro and KTV outlet at Jalan Perai here today.
According to Central Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid, the police also arrested six men aged between 27 and 41 years old, who are the bistro and KTV's manager and employees, during the raid conducted at about 12.45am today.
Nik Ros Azhan said the police had raided the premises and screened 43 clients in the operation.
The police forced open a secret door of one of the KTV rooms and found 10 foreign women (two from China, three from Vietnam and five from Thailand) hiding in the room.
"The foreign women, aged between 27 and 32 years old are detained to assist in the investigation.
"We have obtained a two-day remand for the six men while all the female detainees will be remanded for 14 days under the Immigration Act 1959/1963," he told reporters.
Nik Ros Azhan said the police would investigate all the six men under Section 55(B) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for employing illegal immigrants which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a jail term of up to a year, or both, for every immigrant employed.
"All the foreign women will be investigated under Section 39(B) of the Regulation of Immigration 1963 for working without a permit," he said.
