SIBU: Sarawak needs more products to attract more tourists coming to the state apart from developing the rich culture of the multi-ethnic Sarawakians and its beautiful nature, said Tamin state assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang.
He proposed that the government should set up a theme park and casino in Tutoh to boost the state's tourism industry.
"It is, however, my personal suggestion and it is up to the government to approve," he said when officiating the Blowpipe Competition, in conjunction with the Borneo Dayak Cultural Festival (BDCF) at the Sibu Town Square here today.
The BDCF is part of the ongoing Borneo Cultural Festival 2017.
Sungai Tunoh river basin in Bukit Mabong district, Kapit division was envisaged by the state government to become Sarawak's food basket as well as an ecotourism centre in the next 15 years.
Taking Singapore as an example, Gira said the island country had attracted a lot of visitors with its casinos at Resort World Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands, apart from its Universal Studio theme park.
Meanwhile on the blowpipe competition, Gira said the organiser, Kelab Menyumpit Sibu could cooperate with the Tourism Board and travel agencies to bring in participation from foreign tourists. — Bernama
