GMM did not fail to address Islamophobia: Reezal

KUALA LUMPUR: Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) is not an organisation that fails to address the problem of Islamophobia, said Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.
He said the organisation was frequently invited abroad to share experiences on the problem to Central Asian countries, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Kyrgyzstan, among others.
"I don't see the role of GMM as irrelevant. Except from the question of Islamophobia, it will not be able to be fought against from one perspective, it has got to be in multiple perspectives.
"It cannot be done by Malaysia alone, it needs to be done not only by Muslim countries but also non-Muslim countries ... so that the real teaching of Islam will finally prevail," he said at the Dewan Rakyat sitting here today.
Reezal Merican was replying to a supplementary question from Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Gelang Patah) on whether the establishment of the organisation was effective in addressing Islamophobia. — Bernama
