Man and woman killed in lorry-trailer collision

    NIBONG TEBAL: A man and a woman were killed after the lorry they were in crashed into the back of a trailer after midnight today.

    Lorry driver Teoh Beng Koon, 61, and Low Kuan Tai, 58, died on the spot during the 1.10am incident at KM156.4 of the North South Expressway (NSE) here.

    The 45-year-old driver of the trailer escaped unhurt during the accident.

    South Seberang Prai district police chief Supt Abdul Shafee Abdul Hamd said the trailer was heading towards Jawi from Bukit Tambun.

    He said Teoh is believed to have dozed off, before the lorry crashed into the back of the trailer.

    He said the impact of the crash caused severe head injuries to both victims.

    "They died on the spot," he told reporters when contacted.

    Abdul Shafee said firemen managed to extricate both the victims and their bodies have been sent to the Sungai Bakap Hospital for post-mortem.

    He said the case was being investigated for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving under the Road Transport Act 1987.
