KUALA LUMPUR: The MIC President Scholarship Progamme is offering scholarships, worth RM18 million, for 900 eligible Indian students in the Bottom 40 (B40) economic spectrum seeking to pursue higher education in academics and skilled subjects.
MIC President Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the initiative was organised by MIC education bureau in collaboration with 18 leading private higher education institutions in the country.
He said the scholarship was open to those intending to pursue diploma, degree, master's degree and PhD courses, being divided into two categories, namely full and partial scholarships.
"This is part of the Malaysian Indian Blueprint to transform the Indian community in the country to ensure they have the opportunity to pursue tertiary education.
"We want to provide opportunities for those who are qualified to continue their studies but don't have the financial means to do it," he said at the launch of the scholarship programme here today.
Among the higher education institutions involved are Brickfields Asia College, UCSI University and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.
Meanwhile, when asked on recent updates of the rabies outbreak, Dr Subramaniam, who is also Health Minister, said it was not known when the outbreak would be contained.
"We can't control the movement of dogs, they might go freely to unaffected areas and spread it there, but one thing is certain, the Veterinary Services Department is working hard in giving vaccines to affected areas,” he said.
He was confident the Health Ministry’s intensive campaign would curb the rabies outbreak. — Bernama
