A solution for dry skin

DRY, flaky, and chapped skin is prone to inflammation, itching, and eczema. Various internal and external factors could result in the skin’s natural barrier being stripped away and cause these symptoms. However, dry skin is treatable.
Named after its key ingredient, linoleic acid, Linola is a pharmaceutical skin care range that is wholly formulated and produced in Germany.
Developed by Dr August Wolff and his son Dr Kurt Wolff, the products are based on the fact that linoleic acid, which comes from vegetable oils, has amazing protective, regenerative, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Dr Manuel Häuser, medical information manager of Dr August Wolff GmbH & Co. KG Arzneimittel, the makers of Linola, explains that the protective layer of the skin can be worn off by frequent showering using hot water and extensive use of soaps, climate condition such as air conditioning, and ageing.
“To protect the skin against barrier breakdown and depletion of lipids and moisture, constant replenishment of lipids and other essential components of healthy skin is vital,” said Häuser.
“The body cannot produce linoleic acid on its own. Like a vitamin, it must be substituted on a regular basis to maintain healthy skin,” he added.
The star product in the Linola range of products is the Linola Lotion. It is developed for basic daily care, and for all forms of dry and stressed skin. The water-in-oil emulsion contains vegetable oil that is rich in linoleic acid, is free from mineral oils and silicones, and is suitable for dehydrated and eczema-prone skin.
In an assessment to determine the effectiveness of Linola Lotion, it is concluded that after two weeks of use, the lotion improves skin hydration by 103%, reduces transdermal water loss by 46%, and reduce skin roughness by 81% in adults with very dry or eczema-prone skin.
