KAJANG: It was short lived joy for seven men who were nabbed barely three hours after hitting a jewellery store and carting away RM3 million worth of gems at a hypermarket in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn here.
In the 10.30am incident, a group of men wearing helmets with dark visors and hand-gloves barged into the store and started smashing jewellery display cases repeatedly.
It was reported that the robbers smashed the glass display cases with a sledgehammer and scooped out RM3 million worth of jewellery on display.
One of the suspect also discharged his gun five times in an attempt to threaten the security guard at the store.
At 2pm, a CID team who had been trailing them since the incident, detained all the suspects near Dengkil, Sepang.
Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the suspects were detained in a house at Kampung Lalang in Dengkil.
Fadzil further added that the arrests follows a public tip-off.
"We also seized several jewellery items, weapons like sledgehammers, and firearms during the arrest.
"For now the forensic team and CID team are gathering evidence and concluding the probe. We expect an official statement from the Selangor police chief Commissioner Mazlan Mansor tomorrow," he added.
