Police plans to extend e-reporting usage to crime cases, traffic

KUALA LUMPUR: The police plans to expand the e-Reporting system usage to include making police reports online on crimes cases and traffic.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police had requested the Attorney-General's Chambers to study this as it would have legal implications.
"Currently, the e-Reporting system cannot be used for making police reports on crime cases and traffic complaints as this has legal implications … I hope this can be resolved fast for the facility to benefit all," he told a press conference after attending the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters' monthly assembly, here today.
Khalid said the system usage would be extended nationwide soon after its infrastructure had been upgraded in stages.
The IGP had, on March 10, launched the e-Reporting application which can only be used in Kuala Lumpur by Malaysians aged 18 years and above, and the cases reported do not involve criminal cases or do not require further investigation by police.
At the moment, e-Reporting can be used for loss of identity card, driving licence, road tax slip, passport, credit card, ATM card, mobile phone and computer laptop, as well as for cases of runaway domestic maids.
Asked on the development pertaining to the special operation, "Op Cantas Khas", he said the operation was mounted recently to hunt for individuals who were trying to recruit young people for gangsterism.
"We want to ensure that our young, especially school students, would not be influenced by or fall into this menace, whether within the school perimeters or outside," he said.
Khalid had on July 19, through his official Twitter account, confirmed that 62 secret society gang members were detained in Selangor, Penang, and Kedah in "Op Cantas Khas" conducted the day before.
Earlier in his speech, Khalid said that for 2016 and 2017the police through its Strategic Resources and Technology Department (StaRT), received movable assets comprising 500 motorcycles and 11 other vehicles of various types.
He said another 40 vehicles of various types were contributed by corporate companies, non-governmental organisation and certain parties. — Bernama
