Homeless elderly woman, son put at McD in Damansara for a year

PETALING JAYA: An elderly woman and her mentally challenged son have been taking shelter at the McDonald's restaurant at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara for more than a year.

They have been spending their waking hours at the outlet during its operation hours from 7am to 11pm. The 61-year-old woman, identified only as Mah, and her 23-year-old son, Wong, are said to spend their nights nearby after being unable to pay rent for a room.

Mah and her son became homeless after she lost her job as a cleaning woman. Her husband had died years earlier.

Kechara Soup Kitchen Society project director Justin Cheah posted on his Facebook that he was informed of the predicament of this family by a volunteer on Sunday.

Cheah went to the outlet and found them. He took them to a hotel at Jalan Imbi in Kuala Lumpur, and paid for their accommodation.

However, the woman and son were gone when he went to the hotel the next morning.

Cheah is still trying to locate them and help them look for jobs. Wong only has primary school education due to his limitations and the family being impoverished.
