Hong Kong's Joey stops Nicol's fine run at World Games

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian squash queen Datuk Nicol David's fine run at the 2017 World Games was ended by fourth seed Joey Chan from Hong Kong, thus dashing the former world number one's path to the final. 
In the semi-final played at the Hasta La Vista Squash Center in Wroclaw, Poland on Thursday, Nicol started off confidently to win the first game 11-7 but Joey levelled the score when she took the second game 12-10.
According to the World Games official website www.theworldgames2017.com, the 33-year-old world number six, eyeing her fourth successive gold medal, regained her composure in the next game to once again taking the lead with a 11-5 score.
However, her opponent made another successful come back in the next two games and sealed the match 11-4 and 11-5 in 45 minutes.
For the record, Nicol has won the gold medal in three straight editions of the quadrennial games – Duisburg, Germany (2005), Kaohsiung, Taiwan (2009) and Cali, Colombia (2013). — Bernama
