SHAH ALAM: Police have thwarted an armed robbery gang and in the process, recovered RM3 million worth of stolen jewellery when they raided a house in Dengkil here on Thursday
Selangor Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor said that seven men aged 17 to 45 were hauled up in the raid yesterday.
Mazlan also revealed that the gang members were responsible for robbing eight other goldsmith shops in Selangor between 2015 and 2017. He said that their total haul for these eight shops were in the region of RM15 million.
"They were also behind the robbery of two Kuala Lumpur based goldsmith shops in 2016," he said at a press conference today.
Mazlan said during the house raid in Kampung Lalang, Hampar Tenang, Dengkil, police had also found 4 sledgehammers, a heavy barrel three inch revolver, masks and gloves along with the jewellery.
The seven men were arrested less than four hours after executing a robbery at a shopping complex in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras yesterday.
They were arrested at around 2pm based on several leads that the police had obtained.
Mazlan revealed that no one was hurt in any of the robberies but in yesterday's heist, the robbers had fired six shots at one of the security guards. He emerged unscathed from the attack.
He also added that some members of the gang are still at large and the police are looking for them.
"We are seeking a remand order for the seven men tomorrow," said Mazlan.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code and Section 3 of the Firearms Act 1971 (heavier punishment) and if found guilty, they could face the death sentence.
