Pet shop catches fire, firefighters rescue eight dogs

KUCHING: Quick action by firemen helped save eight dogs at the Loving Pets shop in Jalan Song here, which caught fire early today.
However, one canine perished in the 3.45am incident.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue assistant director of operations Tiong Ling Hii in a statement here said the shop was 70% destroyed.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
In PUTRAJAYA, two hostel blocks of Maahad Tahfiz Al Baraqah, Sepang, were destroyed in a fire that started at 4.40am.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said no casualties were reported but the blaze also spread to a nearby squatter settlement leaving 30% of the houses there burnt.
The religious school's administrator Jaafar Ismail said the 43 male students, aged from eight to 12 years, who had got up for the dawn prayers managed to escape to safety on smelling smoke.
