Banned health supplements still being sold

PETALING JAYA: Are the health supplements you take among products banned by the Health Ministry?
Based on the ministry's list of prohibited products, which was last updated in January, 162 health-related items were banned for containing prohibited substances.
However, according to a report in Nanyang Siang Pau today, some of these banned items, including popular Chinese medicinal products, are still being sold and promoted.
Armed with the prohibited product list, the daily's reporting team visited Chinese medical halls and found that some of the listed items were displayed for sale. A few items were selling so well that they were out of stock at some shops.
The same team also trawled the web and found that many of the banned products were sold on several well-known online shopping sites.
There were also people, believed to be retailers or online sellers, sharing information as well as promoting some of these supplements.
It is worth noting that although the ministry updated its list on Jan 13, postings on these online shopping web sites and social media indicated that the banned products were still on sale.
They include Candy B+ Complex, Al Taqwa Resdong, Al-Barakah Ayam Selasih, Catuaba Nourishing Essence, Combest Slender & Grace II Capsules, D'Herbs Premium Diet, De Bella-Litchin Enzim, Extra Herba-Kapsul Resdung Gali, Figure Up, Garcinia Burner 15d, Hydroxycut Hardcore Elit, Herbal Body Slim, Jamu MustajabMakota Dewa Plus, Jamu Madura, Jus Skyline Al Taqwa, Maajun Mutiara, Maajun Selasih, MaajunTolak Angin, Majun Dua Istimewa, Majun Mitiara, Makjun 1001 Rahsia, Miss Slim, Man King, Pil Raja Urat, Pil Penawar Raja Saraf Original Pekisa, Surut Ayu, Susuk Dara Coklat Love Habibi, Tonik Tuan Haji 1921, Tonik Warisan Banjar, Tunjuk Langit, Ubat Gout and Vimax.
It is interesting to note that following the daily's report that Candy B+ Complex was still readily available online although it has been banned by the ministry for containing Tadalafil, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction, its price has dropped by more than 50%.
