TELUK INTAN: The Public Works Department (PWD) assured motorists that the Sultan Yusof Bridge or better known as the Batu 5 Bridge is safe since regular reviews and inspections are conducted.
Perak Public Utilities, Infrastructure, Energy and Water Committee chairman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin said a team from the PWD Bridge Forensic unit was sent to carry out an inspection on the damages that were reported.
"Indeed, there are damages on the bridge, but not on the structure as alleged by some users. The forensic experts will use a drone to conduct surveys and inspection and then we will be able to see the details of the damages," he told reporters after reviewing the bridge with an expert from the Engineering Forensic Division, PWD Jalan JKR branch, Dr Lim Char Ching, here today.
Zainol Fadzi added that the preliminary investigation found that the "sunken" part of the bridge was probably due to the damages on pot bearing and expansion joint and it was just a maintenance issue.
He said to ensure the safety of road users, warnings and barriers were installed in the affected areas. — Bernama
