Dear Singapore, nice try but … Who’s the copycat?

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian burger joint myBurgerLab will introduce the Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang burger ahead of Merdeka Day. This comes after the release of the Nasi Lemak burger by McDonald's in Singapore.

The new burger sparked debate between Malaysians and Singaporeans on social media, and myBurgerLab has been called "copycats".

In response, myBurgerLab has tweeted an image of the burger with the caption "Dear Singapore, nice try but …"

According to an interview with Singapore's Channel News Asia, myBurgerLab has claimed it invented the nasi lemak burger first.

"(The Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang Burger) is for our National Day (on Aug 31) and also as a response to everyone who tagged us and requested for this burger to be made, because Malaysia's McDonald's didn't have it."

"We actually had this recipe since three years ago, but we decided not to launch it because we felt it was a boring product," the spokesperson told Channel News Asia.

"We thought: 'Why would you eat a nasi lemak burger when you can have nasi lemak?'

"Well, it seems times have changed and people want some form of fusion in their food nowadays," myBurgerLab explained its decision to launch the food fight challenge.
