Where's justice for Furby?

PETALING JAYA: It has been almost four months since a video of the abuse of a dog named Furby (pix) by a Singaporean went viral, but little has been done about bringing the culprit to book.
This is despite the perpetrator, businessman Terry Yee Kok Chew, having gone on record to admit in a video interview that it was he who committed the act and even apologised for it.
The video of him attacking the dog as well as his own admission of having committed the act, should have made it an open-and-shut case in having him charged, at the very least.
Under the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772) that came into effect recently, offenders can be fined up to RM100,000 or three years' jail, or both.
Yee, who claims to be a dog lover, may have mitigating factors for his actions, but this is for the courts to decide after he is charged.
For reasons that have not been made clear, the Veterinary Services Department (VSD) seems to be dragging its feet in charging the perpetrator.
"Is the man's admission not enough?" said animal lover Margaret Scott.
There have been no recent news from the department on the status of the case, or Furby's condition.
theSun has not received a response from the department despite repeated attempts to get an update on the case and whether Furby, which is in its care, had recovered from the ordeal.
The video, that was uploaded on April 6, showed an enraged Yee charging at the dog, grabbing it by the neck and hitting it repeatedly with a crash helmet after he fell off his bicycle when the dog ran towards him.
Netizens were outraged and police reports were lodged against Yee.
"I think animals lovers have been waiting far too long for the outcome of the case," said Malaysia Dogs Deserve Better project manager Melinda J. Gomez.
"We are also very concerned about Furby and hope VSD will not euthanise the dog if the case is closed, but hand it over to anyone who wants to adopt it," she added.
A Facebook page called "Justice for Furby", that was created and dedicated to the case, has since gone quiet, with no updates in over a month.
