KUALA LUMPUR: Police recorded a statement from Umno Youth Exco member Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifa at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters today.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Mohd Sukri Kaman today confirmed at a press conference that Armand was called in to give his account on a fracas that happened last week between members of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (PPBM) youth wing Armada and Armand's UMNO Youth at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).
"I can confirm that we indeed did question him this morning and it went well, he was the only one we have questioned today," said Sukri.
Earlier in the day, Armand had posted on his Facebook page that he was heading to Dang Wangi to assist police in their investigations on Armada's police report claiming that Armand had been violent and had punched some of the Armada youth during the confrontation.
After his statement was recorded, Armand then proceeded to make a police report against PPBM for "disrupting the peace of the nation".
"After giving my cooperation to the police, we have made two police reports against leaders of PPBM who have twisted a speech made by Deputy Pime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on social media which can disrupt the peace of the country," he said in a Facebook posting hours after he was questioned.
In the incident that happened on July 25, about 30 PPBM members had gathered at the Sunway Putra Mall to march towards Menara Dato' Onn at PWTC in an attempt to meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to hand over an invitation to Najib for the second "Nothing to Hide 2.0" forum.
However, they were intercepted moments later by a group of about 100 Umno Youth members who came from PWTC and stopped them from proceeding.
An altercation resulted when both groups exchanged words and shoved each other.
Videos of the incident went viral showing members of both parties engaging in an argument.
However, a video also showed leaders of both groups shaking hands and hugging after putting their differences aside once police had diffused the tense situation.
